One of the best WordPress plugins out there, YOAST SEO is the subject of a security warning today. If you are running YOAST SEO, and really you should be as it’s a great plugin, you need to make sure that you have updated it to the latest version or you risk your site being hacked by a SQL script injection, which is as nasty as it sounds!
There is a proper procedure for updating WordPress. You need to first take a full backup of your database and your files, which you can do with yet another WordPress plugin or from your hosting company’s control panel. You should then deactivate all your plugins, run your updates, first to WordPress and then to your plugins. Then re-enable your plugins one at a time.
Almost every time, nothing goes wrong, but if you do get a problem, following the best practice procedure will help you recover.
Godjira customer’s under our support contract have already had Yoast updated and should be safe.
